... informed to where the big commercial vessels were and their headings, so it was easy to avoid them. The Cape Fear pilots are especially good with this and as long as one pays close attention it's not unsafe to slowly make way like this along the side of the ship channel. The sound of big diesel engines from out-of-sight vessels kept the "PAF" (pay-attention-factor) high. Rhiannon's passage up the river was slow and ...

The next morning we drove into Wilmington. I had read that downtown Wilmington had a pretty nice atmosphere and we were not disappointed. We walked around Front Street and the Pier and enjoyed North Carolina for the first time since we had entered it. ... You have a green card for "bring me meat", or a red card "stop the meat"! The salad bar is amazing, with many different and unusual salads, etc. If you get the opportunity, be sure to try it...the menu is buffet only.

After dinner we "rolled" back to the beach house for the night. Tomorrow is our last full day.

I know I sound spoiled, but a trip to the beach is just what we needed after India. We drove 10 hours from Ohio to make it to the lovely beaches at Topsail Island, overlooking the Atlantic. This is my second time there, and it's still great. Hope to make it down here for more family fun again sometime ...
