The screen had the countdown and scenes from the actual countdown and then lift off. The room shook slightly from the boom of the speakers … it was almost like being there. On the left side wall there was a board with all the checkpoints lit when the tests had been passed while there was another board with all the names of the communication stations from around the world.

From the waters edge at Titusville, we could see the massive Vehicle Assembly Building across on the island of Cape Canaveral ten miles away.
