... heading north on I-93 through countryside that was trying reluctantly to turn autumnal. We stopped in at Tilton for a morning coffee, chatting to inn-keeper Alan about the America's Cup, and best spots in White Mountain for leaf peeping. He directed us to the Kankamagus Highway, which cut through the forest from west to east. He was confident that the fall would be peaking, and we headed off to see if he was right.

They say 3rd times the charm I have typed this story and lost it due to lack of internet. Rita's friend Kim planned a surprise 60th birthday party for her and we had to keep the secret even though she suspected there was something going on. In the afternoon we visited Cabela's and saw the movie "Everest" in 3D. Another great true story movie! A visit to Bayley's Lobster Pound on the way home, prompted us to buy some Maine Stone Crab Claws to bring home for dinner. What a feast although we both agreed these claws weren't quite as good as Florida's.

Out of all of the restaurants I passed on my trip through, I decided to try out the Arundel Wharf. It was a beautiful day, so sitting outside on their large deck, which sits directly on the Kennebunk River, seemed perfect. Of course I had to have a lobster roll (for $19) and I was able to watch as “The Nicks Chance,” a huge whale watch boat took groups of people in and out to see some whales. Boats are docked all around ...
