8 plus hours of driving from Charleston SC, we finally reached the outer banks in North Carolina. Seems like two very large states considering the next day we'd drive through 4 states in half the time, but whatever. The last leg of the drive is pristine as you cross about 3 bodies of water on long highway bridges and once you enter the region, you realise there are huge bodies of water on either side of you. My initial feeling was that the ...

... the view of the surrounding city. This time we chose the crab bisque soup and crab cakes. We are eating a lot of seafood, but we can't pass it up as it's so good here. We then took the free trolley that the city of Charleston offers. It took us back to the visitors' center, where we had left the car.
On Tuesday August 5th we drove northwards along the coast and stopped in Myrtle Beach. A golf cart shuttle took us down to the beach, ...

... out for a 22-23ish mile bike ride along Nag's Head. The Silver Riders (a group of aged but rockin' folks from around here) lead the way. They took us all the way to Bodie Island Lighthouse, the same place Hannah, Maddie, Taylor and I toured yesterday. We didn't climb to the top but enjoyed the view and the sights nonetheless. The ride took most of the afternoon. For the first week of this trip, I'm ...

... Kevin called the front desk to find out what the deal is. They told us that residents who live in the southern outer banks are being told to evacuate and that we have nothing worry about. I'm sorry, but the outer banks isn't exactly big, and I am leaving if the residents in the south are leaving. Our bags are packed. Kevin wanted to stay since we paid for our hotel, but I told him, my instincts say we need to leave. We were trying to debate if were were ...

    ... experienced.

We're home now, preparing for the night. Tomorrow we'll head northwest into Virginia to visit Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. My friend Earl, encouraged me to visit there, knowing my interests in inventions and such. I really look forward to the experience. And time marches on... Spring is here. It's warm and green. The nights are cool and life is good. What more can two middle-aged wanderers ask?
