Day 7: Pigeon Forge is a kids' Vegas

A travel blog entry by elainesj on Jul 19, 2014

... to do in Pigeon Forge, we should have pancakes for dinner! Unfortunately, we found out that pancake places all closed at 2-3pm. (You would think tourists would want pancakes at 1am after riding on crazy go karts?! Maybe its time for me to go into business...). After some searching, we found a place called "The Diner" in Sevierville that served all day breakfast. It was pretty good pancakes and we left full ...

Day 6: Rain, rain go away

A travel blog entry by elainesj on Jul 18, 2014

Day 6: Fishing at Tumbling Waters Campground & Trout Pond. $4/lb. (we caught 2 trout and paid $6). All bait and fishing gear provided. Was supposed to rent a pontoon boat from Almond Boat Dock($150/4 hours) but rained all day.

It was raining when we woke up - but we weren't going to let it stop us! We did rearrange our plans to go either tubing in Deep Creek or rafting on ...

Day 5: Attempted a quiet, lazy day

Day 5: Hiking Appalachian Trail (at Fontana Dam). Then swim & rope swing at Cable Cove. Free.

Today was a quiet, lazy day. After sleeping in, we packed our lunches and headed to Fontana Dam to hike that section of the Appalachian Trail. We hiked for a little over an hour (the boys turned back earlier with the kids) and it was a steady uphill the whole time which was ...

    Day 4: All about riding!

A travel blog entry by elainesj on Jul 16, 2014

... the Forest was a very nice hike - a little challenging as there was a steady climb. The boys quit halfway through, claiming boredom, retracing their steps to the parking lot. We girls pushed on and enjoyed the walk. Sadly, I missed the giant trees somehow. I'm still not sure how I missed seeing them - maybe I missed a spur on the trail?

After all this, we rejoined Phan and Thao at the motorcycle rental place and headed back for a bonfire at the cabin.

    Day 3: Treasure Hunting!

A travel blog entry by elainesj on Jul 15, 2014

Day 3: Rose Creek Gem Mine, 4 buckets of dirt for $20

Rates on their website: Dig-Your-Own from the mining tunnel: 2 for $10, all refills $5 (10 refills for $45. Minor miners, 8 & under can help adults)

The mine was in Franklin, so off we went on this day's adventure. Thao ended up paying just for herself and got 2 buckets of dirt which were perfect for Mika and Esen. Phan stood back and ...
