    Niagara Falls: Day 1

... river below too - the water still runs underneath the top layers of ice. It's really cool, the water has just frozen mid-stream. There is only one time in history where the falls have frozen completely, so ur 150 years ago. Wow it must have been cold for that to happen! We read a brochure at the horseshoe falls about a lady who crossed the falls via a barrel - she got inside a custom made barrel and jumped into the falls - crazy! The video of her story is played at the ...

A most incredible leg of our journey, surpassing expectations. Customs was relatively easy going into Canada (although surprisingly ended up being even easier when we returned to the states as Canada forced us to put our belongings through X-Ray while USA did no such thing) and after getting checked into our hotel (cleverly I picked one just around the corner from the station), we did something that seems a little silly and quintessentially American: ...

Only 5 minutes of fireworks, and we didn't get as close to the mist ...

... begin to capture the breathtaking beauty. We headed first to the Maid of the Mist, the boat that takes you right to the waters just beneath the American and Horseshoe Falls. They supply every one with a blue, plastic poncho. The boats from the Canadian side give their passengers red ponchos. That way when someone goes overboard they can tell which country needs to throw in the life line. The boat takes you very close to the base of ...

... falls weren't as big as we had imagined, but a must see. We then headed off to find lunch. We drove back towards Buffalo and stopped into Wild Wings for Mark. He ate 20 boneless pieces of chicken and some chips! Close by was Walmart so we had to check that out. We went browsing for the best 'people of Walmart'. Bec won the competition by pointing out a mother/son combination. The son was about 12 years old and ...
