          We had a relatively short drive through very agreeable Autumn foliage into the State of Maine. Our stay is in Rangeley, on the 45th parallel exactly half way between the Equator and the North Pole. The town is lovely with no traffic lights, 1200 residents (98.4% of them being white American) and lots of lakes and streams. I suppose it only natural that everybody knows everybody.           ... is billed in Mexico as an "Auto Hotel." Earlier in the trip we had stayed at one of these when it was getting late, and it was fine. They are kind of like a cul-de-sac surrounded by small "houses," each interconnected with the adjacent, and a car-port with a heavy curtain for a garage door. The kids swam, the grown-ups relaxed and chatted, the Dads played 'Monkey in the Middle' with the kids, we ate a picnic lunch......All in all a perfect way to bring our time together to a close.
