... I David was with a groups of three Canadian women who were quite entertaining. They had an informative guide who gave lots of information (often a repeat of what has been seen before, but with a local flavour added to it). We saw the mouth of the first gorge (the scene is depicted on the CYN10 note) and climbed the 300 steps. There were a number of men with sedan chairs carrying some people up the steps - quite amusing to watch. Our ...

Lots of rice fields in the valley floors (quite high hills all around), tea plantations on the sides of some of the hills, and the usual vegetable crops - corn, beans, potatoes, peppers etc. Lots ...

... the city ( part of the city ) - the Changchun Temple and the Guiyuan Temple ( Taoist and Buddhist respectively ). It's getting to be "just another temple" though. Lots of rain so my walks had to be timed carefully so as not to get wet. And pretty heavy rain on one of the days. Not a lot of Western tourists - in fact I didn't see any for my whole stay in ...

    Yichang to Wuhan

From Yichang it was overland east - to Wuhan. Before I got off the boat I asked how I could get from the dock to the railway station at Yichang to catch a train to Wuhan. I thought the dock would be in the town, and that the town was relatively small. Silly me. The dock was 10-15 km from the town and, like all places in China, it was home to millions so was a bit more than a town. "Get a private car from the dock" I ...
