        Most of the high school kids have their education pathway pretty well mapped out, and vocational training isn't a priority over here, as it is seen as lower level rather than skills for workplace. The hardest part is getting them to understand that in Australia industry recognises TAFE as a means to enhancing skills.

        ... realized that we were in the middle of the site of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. It shows just how devastated this area was if they are still cleaning up/rebuilding 5 years later. Pretty humbling part of the journey.

        ... the strangely quiet streets of Kathmandu. The quietness of the streets was due to the fact that so many people travel for Tihar, to be with family, so they were all still away or making their way home from outside of the city.         ... prices for the last 3 days and realized that he had been getting 3 baht less per dollar- gipping us out of $60USD (about 1600 baht in Thailand- goes a long way). Nuno spoke with the gentleman he had been working with who explained that the reason was it was a "hotel fee". The guy attempted to resolve the matter by paying out of his own pocket to rectify the the situation but Nuno asked to speak with a manager since he felt a sign should've been posted ...

        ... stairs. We really underestimated how many stairs it would be! The Chinese are quite lazy when it comes to physical activity so they had put in cable cars to the major monasteries and even had porters that could carry you on a stretcher the rest of the way. It made some of the spots impossible to walk in, but the path in between was very quiet and enjoyable.
