    As we traveled east and then southeast across Oregon we were amazed by the contrasting physical landscape of the state. As we got away from the lush green forested mountain slopes and steep canyon cliffs, we first drove through treeless mountains with dry grass.     ... planes have done several cross country events over the past 10 year... With awards and stickers to show their attendance of the events... There is a Wright Brothers plane, a 1912 Curtiss Pusher, Several Piper Cubs, the Boeing mentioned above... and many, many more... This is a MUST SEE for any of you that are in the Hood River area.

    ... of the crust concoction and baked it in a small cast iron on the grill outside. The result: wonderfully caramelized berries and peaches, with a crust that tasted like a dense fruit cake crust that my French grandma makes. Scott added some vanilla ice cream. In the end we both agreed that the crust probably could have been left out. I enjoyed it anyway. We ended up falling asleep and actually got to bed by 4 am, because I first wanted to take a shower and clean some dishes. Wonderful ...

    ... learn so much about the Oregon Trail even though we hadn't planned on it - we just found ourselves there and it was really interesting. We learned about some of the history and natural resources of the area, then packed up to move on to Boise.

    I came out of there feeling refreshed, and Dean left with a new hobby! It's really neat to see him completely get into something. I like to encourage him a little and see how far he takes it.

    ... and also cut 20 miles from the former route. Today, I visited Three Islands State Park and the Oregon Trail History and Education Center. Whew, Doggie. The folks back in the day were tough! If I can muster up a little of their resilience and fierce perseverance then, maybe, I will be able to endure the grueling miles in the Surly saddle.
