Survived a wild ride down the bay. Some of the roughest conditions we have experienced on the Chesapeake. Big waves. 30+ kt winds and lots of driving rain. Enjoyed our new cockpit enclosures as well as the heater we installed below. The AIS system which allowed us to identify ships during the night was a big help.

Navy ships don't use AIS so we slowed to enter Hampton Roads after sunrise. Still, with heavy ...

... br> We accomplished our non-stop passage plan, arriving at Willoughby Bay, Norfolk, VA on May 19 at 1205, and dropping anchor just outside Willoughby Harbor Marina. Distance of the passage was 660nm over 4 days, 4 hours, 15 minutes for an average speed of 6.6 kts. Pretty typical for our offshore passages.

Arriving in Norfolk, our plan had been to take Jim ashore in the dinghy to his ...

... was another slow start, I do enjoy my lie ins over here ;) in the afternoon we headed to a bowling alley, paid $10 for all you can bowl. 3 hours of bowling later and our arms were killing us. Again it was an old friend of Lisa's who invited us over and cooked us dinner. Very tasty spaghetti bolognese made by her two eldest sons. Once again, another very hospitable family who made us feel very welcome. I could get used to this. I think you all get ...
