    ... What they fail to mention is that the water is alpine water and is FREEZING cold. Melanie and I tried but there was no way. My feet were numb after wading in for about 30 seconds. There was one hardy young fellow who jumped in from a ledge off a cliff but he came up gasping and very quickly swam to shore. I give him full credit because if I had just jumped in, I think I would have either passed out or my heart would have stopped.

    ... enough and we all pile back into the Dodge yet again. All is going smoothly until we hit the highway. Apparently our magnanimous wives didn’t realise that the electronics shop is about twenty minutes down the road in Nanaimo. OK, we’ll be really quick, then beach - here we come.

    ... the guy's name was Rocky!! With my preconceived image of anyone with that name coming from the movies, I couldn't get the image of a heroic beating out of my head! Should I try to talk even more **** than I already am?!     ... tops of trees. The through the mist, a mountain top in the distance. Then before we knew it, we were surrounded by tiny islands, conifers, mountains that stretched the entire coastline, some so high they were still dusted with snow. Eagles soared overhead and the beautiful fishing port of Nanaimo scrawled through the green vastness. Gobsmacked is not the word.
