... We passed Houston, where we encountered four separate bumper-bashings that caused tailbacks down the freeway. The first and most severe we managed to avoid by taking a parallel road, and fortunately the others were clearing by the time we reached them.

We reached Columbus, Texas rather later than we had hoped. Our hotel was opposite Sally's Steakhouse, so we retired thereto for a well-earned meal and a beer or two.

          Another poorly bike day!

... bike gives up soon after. A two hour wait and we load the bike again onto the back of the support vehicle.

We continue on our bikes for the 200 miles still to do and get to our hotel at columbus at about 730. Interesting doing battle on the maze of roads around Houston, but we get through, despite the heavy traffic.

A quick shower and a nice steak at a nearby restaurant. A tiring long day - sleep beckons.

... fine...not great, but okay. We got our steaks and more bottomless iced tea. Which brings me to my trip to the men's room...which was in the attached bar. I walk into the barroom and spot some grizzled Texans, cowboy hats, and all, sitting around the bar. I asked the lady bartender where the men's room was. "That door right behind you, honey" she said as if it was no less than the ten millionth time she had said it. Right behind me where? I couldn't ...

... goes on in the summer around there. However, they don't want dogs more than 20 lbs at some and no dogs at others. What's with that? Riley could smell the water and he was so excited. We wasted a lot of time there and then it was rush hour and there are a million different highways so we finally ended up at the KOA in Bastrop, which is near ...
