On a Sunday morning, May 18, 1980, Mount St Helens erupted, causing the largest landslide in recorded history. Winds of hurricane force, fire, heat, and debris swept down the Toutle River Valley and left a barren, gray landscape behind. After 32 years, the landscape is turning green again with bright wildflowers growing in the ash and mud and seedlings are reaching up as the area slowly recovers over time.
