I have seen some other people on blogs post some commonly used phrases on the trail. So, I figured I would do that now so those of you reading this would have some idea of what I am talking about.

Drove over to the Riverfront in Shreveport and checked it out. Really nice area. Four or five casinos. Went and ate lunch at Bodacious Bar-B-Q in Bossier City. It was awesome. We had pulled pork sandwiches and peach cobble!

Went back to Louisiana Downs to catch some horse races, but they were already over. They have quarter horse racing in the winter.

Today we drove the Blues Highway from Tunica, to Vicksburg. Then west to Monroe, La., finally ending up at Harrah's Louisiana Downs. It is a horse race track and casino. It was 32 degrees when we left. 50 when we arrived.

On the way we drove into Clarksdale, Ms. For one photo. The Crossroads. This is where blues guitarist Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil in exchange for being a successful artist. The intersection is highway 61 and 49.

Among thru-hikers, gear is obsessed about more than any other facet of the trip, and I am no exception. Researching gear has been a ton of fun but I am happy that I am finally done. I'm pleased with my set up and can't wait to hit the trail ...

The What, The Where , and The Why

"Why in the world would you ever want to hike in the cold, freezing rain, and snow across 2,200 miles of the east coast?" That's the question I have been asked most frequently since deciding to hike the entire Appalachian Trail (AT for short). For those of you that don't know what the AT is, it is a footpath that goes from Springer Mountain in Georgia, through 14 states, then ending on Mount Katahdin in ...
