Mumbai (Bombay) to Miami

On our way to the airport we stopped at the home of Sonal's parents to bid them goodbye and to pickup Sonal and her sister, Roopal who would accompany us to the airport. Arriving at the airport at about 12:30 AM, we said our goodbyes and checked in to our flight. Thus began one of our longest days as we travelled with the sun, changing planes in …

Stuff

A travel blog entry by r10vill9

Since last July, when we made up our minds to do this trip, we have been divesting ourselves of stuff. some stuff stayed at the cottage, other stuff got boxed and stored at home, in homes of friends and relatives and some even got stored inside cars that were then stored away. bit by bit the stuff we spent a life accumulating was deemed not …

One last leg for the day!

January 3, 2009 (Edmonton ˇV Miami) HmmmmˇK gonna try to make a long story short here as Iˇ¦m sure I can type holes through my laptop as I type due to a LITTLE frustration. So, given that weˇ¦re all a little tired, and we almost didnˇ¦t get up this morning due to no courtesy phone call (as we requested), and our alarm not working, the fact that …

This is our last day in Cuba. After an early morning breakfast we head to the airport to go through Customs and board our plane back to Miami.

It's been a wonderful trip, start to finish. I have to commend our group leader, Cuqui and guide, Jose for making this trip better than ...

Good value for our post cruise stay

    from RedditchRover

We stayed for one night after a cruise and found the accomodation to be very good. We chose this hotel as we had stayed there a few years ago and it was good then.

We had a room on the second floor and it has recently been renovated and we found all to be nice and clean. The beds were comfortable and the bedlinen clean and fresh. We didn't use the pool but it looked to be o.k. and we would certainly recomend this hotel for a one night stay at a very reasonable price compared to others in the same area.

Also they provide a continental breakfast and although we only tried the coffee that was was exellent.

    Good price, recently renovated

    from anonymous

We booked one night at the Red Roof Inn for the night after our cruise, we couldn't get into our room before 3h00pm but it wasn't a big deal, we had a rental car and had plans for the afternoon.

Our room was on the main floor in the second building. The carpet was new as well as the bedding. The bathroom and towels looked clean, soap was provided. I believe this location has been recently renovated per the booklet that was in the room. It's a basic, no frills type of place, the pool looked nice but we didn't use it.

We had an early flight the next day so we used the automated phone system to place a wake-up call that never came, good thing I had set the alarm clock as well. It was a nice place to stay for a night plus we got a good rate, we'd stay here again before or after a cruise. The hotel also provides a shuttle to the airport.

The only negative was that the a/c unit wouldn't stay on, it would work for a minute then only the fan would work. We had to turn it on and off to get the room cooled down.

    Among the worst

    from anonymous

Rooms are in need for renovation, carpet is dirty, bathroom disgusting and smelly.

And the worst part of it: staff is absolutely unprofessional. They gave us a room that was already occupied by somebody else! When we opened the door with our electronic key, there were clothes and fast food bags all over the floor and somebody was taking a shower in the bathroom!

Never experienced something like this before, didn't feel safe that night at all. Would never stay "under the roof" again!

    Yuck!

    from anonymous

We ALMOST stayed at this motel, but checked out after we saw the room! It was not clean, in poor repair and had mold around the bathtub. Needless to say, we looked for and found much nicer accomodations at the same price.

    Complete Idiots

    from anonymous

I can't really comment on the hotel because they canceled our reservation which was already paid for. I called at 9pm to find out where to catch the shuttle when we got in since it would be really late. The desk clerk informed me they were sold out but I explained I'd made my reservation almost four months ago. She checked and said they'd pick me up and take me over to another hotel and they'd take care of everything. We got to the hotel by shuttle at 12:45am to find out we didn't have a room. There was a different clerk working and he said my reservation showed I'd called and canceled at 9. I told him what had been said and he said he was sorry but too bad. Offered to call me a cab, at my expense, and could recommend somewhere else to stay. the whole point of staying there was because they had shuttle service for airport and port and we wouldn't have to pay cab fare. We ended up staying at the Wellesly, which is way overpriced, paid $90 even though we got there at 2am. Had to pay out $50 in cab fare to get to hotel and to the port. All this for a room that was already paid for. I called and complained as soon as I got back home yesterday. Was advised they'd look into it but they would not reimburse for cab fare regardless of what happened. It was a really bad way to start a vacation.

Don't Book the Red Roof Inn Miami Airport!

    from anonymous

One word, Horrible! I was in great need of a vacation and I chose to go to Miami. I chose to save money so I booked with the Red Roof Inn across the street from the Miami International Airport, BIG MISTAKE! The washer machines ate our money, the dryer didn't work, the idiot at the frontdesk was incompetent! The ice machine broke, the hallways were anything but clean, and the people who stayed there tend to have many children and pets who are loud and noisy at all hours of the day! Did I mention the elevator broke twice during my two week stay? How about the part where the toilet talks to you during the middle of the night, "gurgle, gurgle." Oh what about the fact that they get stingy with the soap and towels and you have to be thoughtful enough to have brought your own soap otherwise you'd be showering using your shampoo and drying yourself off on dirty towels!

    Passable

    from anonymous

The hotel was passable. However, the bathroom didn't look very clean and staff was unprofessional. Shuttle service to and from the airport was fairly good. I regularly visit Miami and stay close to the airport and there are better hotels that cost the same. I just tried Red Roof last time and won't probably go there again.

    Awful

    from Kat_Ric

Just one word could describe our stay at the Red Roof Inn - awful. We had pre-booked and pre-paid for 2 rooms some six months ago - and had both the travel agents confirmation and the accomodation vouchers. Due to some admin. error, Red Roof Inn had cancelled one of our bookings and after some persuading we managed to get the front desk to allocate us a room - which was smoking rather than the non-smoking room which we had requested. The room was absolutely disgusting, it felt and smelt unclean and the Staff were less than sympathetic. Don't make the same mistake that we did - it's worth paying a bit more and having a decent night's sleep than going for the cheap option.

    Good choice

    from anonymous

We stayed at the Red Roof Inn in Feb/04 and it was an overall pleasent experience. The room was clean, the staff was friendly and we used both the airport pickup service and the shuttle service to the port of Miami. Everything worked out great. The continential breakfast was good and there is even a nice family restaurant right next door. I would definitely stay here again.
