Amazing Queenstown

The drive to Queenstown was pretty long but the scenery along the way was seriously breath-taking. Lots of Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia were filmed here and you can see why, its stunning. Even colder the further south you get though, and the locals are saying how cold it is for the time of year!

We weren't disappointed when we arrived in Queenstown either, our hostel was at the top of a big hill and had great views of the Remarkable Mountains. It's a small town but seriou...

Queenstown I write from Reavers Lodge, Queenstown from where I have been for the last two nights. VERY strange arriving in a winter climate from Singapores sticky heat. It just felt surreal having been in Mumbai not long ago to being amongst the snow capped mountains and crisp, cold climate of Queenstown. After a fourth flight in 48 hours into New Zealand on Thursday (and a great sleep that night - SO TIRED!) I awoke on Friday to get my bearings and get some jobs done (mobile phone SIM, super...

Gorgeous Queenstown

We arrived in Queenstown on Wednesday night after our drive from Franz Josef.
We had 4 nights in Queesntown before we left on Sunday.
Queenstown is an absolutely stunning place- it is nestled in between snow capped mountains and next to a lake-it is a really peaceful place but yet has a good town with plenty of choices and has so much outdoor activites to offer-really is a gem of a town. It was described to us in Auckland as heaven on earth and to be honest it aint far off.
We starte...

Queenstown

We flew over to NZ with Qantas (great airline) over the beautiful hills and were already amazed by it. We found the hostel we had booked after a while, probably the furthest and highest from the town centre but we had a room on the end with views over the town, Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkable mountain range beyond (thats actually what they are called). We went mountain biking down Skippers Canyon with Vertigo bikes which was great, Lucy went down the road the first time then down the harder ...

Day 8 Part 2 - Milford Sound to Queenstown

... a mountain via the Homer Tunner, past Knob's Flat and the Mirror Lakes. They were cool, but quite small - they sounded more impressive in the guide book!! From Te Anau we drove straight to Queenstown. There was an amazingly huge red moon in the sky at dusk - at first we thought it might have been a hot air balloon - wish I'd got a photo - it was immense. Its a shame we had to arrive in Queenstown in the dark - as you can see from the map the road goes along Lake ...

Ridin' and Hobbitin'

28 May 2009 So Queenstown - the adrenalin junkies highlight to New Zealand. And when the summer's gone they come in their masses to ski in the Remarkables ski resorts. We're in between seasons here - so it's a little quieter but every adrenalin rush you might seek is still on offer.....bungying, ski diving, jet boating, caving, abseiling, paragliding, hang gliding, aerobatics, rafting, canyoning, canyon swinging, flying.........your head gets in a spin just ...

Queenstown - The Final Stop of a Wicked Journey...

The one thing I said I'd never do was a bungy jump. What have I just done? Only the Nevis Bungy jump in Queenstown and what a thrill! It all started with my alarm not going off and waking up with 2 minutes until I was supposed to be checking it. I grabbed whatever I had and ran out of Base hostel to the Bungy jumping centre. On the way I bumped into two of my friends from the bus, Hayley and Sophie, who had come to find me before I missed the bus. The ...

Queenstown

We headed into Queenstown with a covering of cloud this morning, but at least it wasn't raining. The information centre told us the cloud was due to lift after lunch, so we decided to take the kids ice-skating, which was on their 'must-do' list. We walked around the waterfront (very pretty and very busy) and got booted up inside the ice rink. Kate spent more time on the ice than skating to start with ...

Hello all, we are now in Queenstown, its pretty cool just been relaxing in the sun. Thank you all very much for my birthday wishes, it is so good to hear from you all and learn you are all well. I had a good birthday we had a large round of pancakes for breakfast in a top 10 holiday park (pretty posh for us freecampers) Charlie sung happy birthday once which was lovely but I did stop her as she started for a second time. Although the ...
