... to Fort Sumter where the first shots of the Civil War were fired. We then visited the maritime Museum which displayed the USS Yorktown, aircraft carrier, USS Laffey, destroyer – the ship that wouldn’t sink (survived many Kamakazi attacks) and a Vietnam War Memorial. Left there at 6.30pm and back to Camp Wally. Very tired after a long, hot but good day.

Today we toured Charleston ...
Enjoyed a cereal, orange juice and cup of tea at the Super 8 Motel this morning. Headed off early at about 9.00am. Already had nearly a full tank of gas, as they say over here, so followed the Garmin route across country a little bit until we joined I-71 South. Pretty much uneventful journey through a lot of Appalachian mountains national park. Plenty of green, green, green trees of various kinds. Seemed to be Pine, Birch, and others ...
The time has finally come to take off on the trip. We are loaded down ready to go. Meeting up to pick up our honorary child Ethan, and a family photo before head out west. Hopefully we run into cooler weather as the humidity in SC and triple digit heat indices ...
