... major hotel chains have resorts on the island. About 40% (south end of the island) is one big development which charges $6 to access so we skipped it. We were at an RV resort & marina on the NE end of the island near the highway bridge. Many bike trails exist but not close to where we are and we don't want to ride on the busy highways.

... all that is left of the keepers house are the stone foundational outlines due to a fire.
The walk along the beach back to the campsite was pretty amazing. This stretch of beach is like no other beach I have seen. It is a driftwood graveyard. The tide has risen over the years leaving huge pieces of driftwood in its path that cover the beach during low tide. Many of the trees still stand as if alive and at the edge of the shoreline are half dead ...

We have enjoyed wonderful sunsets from the stern the past couple of evenings and thought about keeping the boat here while we go back to KS, but are pushing southward to Jacksonville as originally planned. We will definitely be back here next year, though.

As you can see from our activities, we've had a busy summer and unfortunately blogging has taken a back seat. We are really enjoying our ...
