After 450 miles south, we head east skirting he big city areas and rolling thru the countryside. This post is in between campsites to alert you to a (planned) direction change.
Stopping for lunch at a large rest area east of Bloomington, Illinois, we admire the vast fields and ominous clouds of an impending weather front moving in from the southeast.
Time is getting close for our travels to Italy. We are excited; our adventures will include: Rome, Naples, Sorrento, Pompeii, Florence, Tuscany, Pisa, Venice, Milan and the Italian and Swiss Alps.
Plane and train tickets have been purchased a well as tickets to several historical sights - Vatican, Academy of the Arts (David) and Uffizi Gallery.

Left Greenwood and headed north through Indianapolis towards Chicago. I'd made the decision to revisit some of Friday's route as I'd not been able to do it justice due to tiredness. Left I-65 just 75 miles from Chicago and headed west to rejoin Route 66 at Dwight. Took a look at downtown Dwight as an early alignment of the route had gone through the town whereas it now skirts the edge of town. It was very quiet with businesses closed due to Memorial Day but ...
... in the Northwest and, since this is so close to when I'm going to retire, maybe we can make this an extended trip and do some additional sight-seeing. After numerous revisions, we decide that we'll hang around Oregon for another week, head up to northern Idaho for a week, and then slowly work our way back home. Total trip time will be about 4 weeks and 5000-6000 miles.
