This trip I am determined to use up a handful of smaller activity books with the girls, and picked up three "leave where you are when finished" books from the local second hand book shop for each of us especially as the girls are avid readers. The dogs are off to a dear friend's home, the valuables off to mum & dad's and after a decent rest ... off on our exciting adventure to explore and enjoy ...

Polo was first played in Aiken in 1882. Polo ponies were imported by Tom Hitchcock in the 1880's. Tom and Tommy Hitchcock were considered to be the best at Polo (10 goalers). It is said that F. Scott Fitzgerald is quoted as saying that Tommy Hitchcock was the basis for "The Great Gatsby." Whitney field remains the oldest polo field still in existence.
