... weather forecast for tomorrow is still grim, supporting our decision to get to the north side of the Neuse today and avoid the miserable weather that was forecast to hit in a few hours. While Maggie showered I checked the engine. All was okay except the alternator belt needed a slight tightening. I showered while Maggie readied the boat for travel. We got underway at 0930 and almost immediately fell in behind a tug and two helpers moving two big cranes and some big yellow cylindrical tanks. ... I think they were either test flights or radar planes because they kept going up, circling and coming right back down. We got back to the car at around 430 and drove to a nearby campsite. It had gotten cold outside and we quickly took less than hot showers that left my teeth chattering. Chris thought I was being a wussy until he took his shower. Haha! Our campsite was dark and quiet and we had free power that night so we played videogames to our hearts ...

... Once we boarded we saw a lot of birds feeding and many were pelicans, albatross and osprey. Big birds! We rode over in the comfort of our little home looking out the windows at other passing ferries and fishing boats. The route was once a straight route but now meanders back and forth to the other side. We speculated that the route is now avoiding bird and turtle habitat, but we're not sure.
