... and the sky is so big you can watch the weather as if it's playing on a huge overhead surround screen. Endlessly fascinating.
However, by the time I'd reached my destination I was done! Definitely ready for a break from the driver's seat.
Just as an aside, it took me awhile to figure out why so much corn and why it's still standing, all dried out. It's got to be for corn oil, biodiesel and/or animal ...
... the days travel was originally Sioux Falls, SD, I had called earlier in the day and priced out a Super 8 at a decent rate. Uneventful and pleasant ride today, the weather was beautiful and the traffic light. 123 miles short of my destination I stop at a Super 8 motel just off the highway, in Onawa, IA and check in for less than $50. Happy 10th Birthday today to sweet Grand Daughter Kristen Jane! Left Wall SD today, traveling through South Dakota. Interesting deer sculpture at the truck stop. Along this route lots of Sunflower fields and the most round hay bales I have ever seen in one area! Stopped off at the rest area near chamberlain SD for lunch. Beautiful views of the Missouri River here as well as a cool exhibit about Lewis & Clark. Stayed the night in Sloan Iowa. ...
Sioux City... Actually North Sioux City which is in South Dakota as opposed to Sioux City which is in Iowa and South Sioux City which is in Nebraska. We were in all threes states within ten minutes time. We went to the Sergeant Floyd River Boat and learned much about Sergeant Floyd the Lewis and Clark expedition. Craig heard there was a candy shop downtown so we had to go the Palmer's Old Tyme Candy Shoppe and buy a bag full!
