      ... Cook summit, we flew over several other enormous glaciers. The views from here through to the valleys below, with cascading glacial-melt rivers and massive lakes, was inspiring. We heard over the radio that the other pilot couldn’t land on Fox, due to cloud cover, so he headed back to Franz Joseph for a landing. We continued to the summit of Mt Cook.

      ... It's a good thing we are leaving tomorrow as she explained that where we are staying is in a danger zone. Remember the raging river well when it rages these chalets are in serious danger of being washed away so the owners are in talks with the council to move over to the other side of the river and abandon the motel.       ... drivers are beyond kind although we are sure much nicer than the Aussies. The biggest annoyance is the sandfly...and they bite....smaller than a mosquito. One other remark....there are more single lane bridges here than you can shake a stick at. It means someone is always waiting. Our resort reminds me of what the Wickannish Inn must be like in Tofino.
