It's 5:36pm as I begin to write this post and already so much has happened. That tends to be the case for us on this trip, but today was a particularly strange day. Last night I fell asleep talking with Sam Alcorn, which was pretty great because I got to learn a bit more about his life and where he's from and Denver, where he lives presently. 5:30am wake up. As I start packing up and gathering my things and getting ready for the day it starts ...

We heard an ad on the radio about a BBQ festival in Oklahoma, it wasn't to far away so this was something we just had to check out. We arrived just after it started and they were already running out of the $6 tasting kits, the kits allowed you to sample about 12 stalls BBQ offerings; bargain! The stalls were all running out of food fast so we tried to sample as much as we could, pulled pork was the star but it was all so ...

... or someone... two cars to pull over an RV. Bridget has California plates, so not sure why they came after us... but wtf. We had planned to stop at a Triple D (Diners, Drive Ins and Dives) recommended place called Clanton's Cafe in Vinita, Oklahoma. It is on Route 66 and Triple D said the chicken fried steak and calf fries were the best, so of course that's what we ordered as well as mashed potatoes all smothered in the traditional white ...

... us his cell # in case we needed anything, and then he was on his way. Our contact arrived about 10 minutes later and after a quick hello, we went inside for a late dinner and sleep.

Although we were assured that the police department and the parks department knew we had permission to stay overnight in the public park, we still ended up getting a knock on the door at 3am by two police officers. They were nice, but had ...

We began our day at the JM Davis Gun Museum in Claremore. It is the largest privately owned gun collection in the world. The boys loved looking at the weapons but 50,000 was overwhelming!
We traveled on Old Route 66 to our next stop at the Blue Whale. It was formerly in a swimming lake.
Moving on we stopped for a picture at the Arcadia Round Barn.
We stopped for some refreshment at Pops where they have hundreds of different pop to choose ...
