This RV park was situated on a high hill, and the lights of the city could be seen below. There was a smaller hill at the edge of the park that had been turned into a scenic overlook area. Metal steps went up the steep side, and there were park benches and walkways at the top. The park management had even put a large stuffed bear on the top as a joke.

... to a dead end. Never got close to the Buffalo.

By then we were ready to head back to the RV Park. So we didn't complete the Lariat Loop Historic Byway but we had a great adventure.

When we got back to the RV Park, there was a neighbor who had bought some roasted chiles. The location they got them was about 17 miles away. A long way to go for chiles so we never made it.

... so tiny that the coffee shop is closed so dinner is from a nearby convenience store (a bag of mini chocolate donuts for me). Olivia arrives - she's 14 and was flying from Atlanta via Denver to Durango by herself (not an escorted minor). Back to the trailer and they help me set up a tent (the trailer's not big enough for 3 people!) by a stream. Around my tent in the small field are fire fighter "hotshots" stopping for the evening.
