    Left Vegas yesterday to travel to our next stop, Calico just outside Barstow. The trip saw us cross the Mojave desert in sweltering temperature - even the fridge / air con is struggling in these temps which is not a surprise! The Mojave valley is eerily beautiful with it's back drop of mountains mixed in with a landscape of sand ...

    ... of the trunk. Apparently, the high temps caused the water to be forced out the top of the jug as I did not find a hole in the jug. Emptied the contents and have the trunk propped open letting it dry overnight.

    We plan to leave early again tomorrow...go through San Bernardino and will make it to Pasadena by the end of the drive.

    ... forget navigating as well ( love the Tom Tom .... my new BFF)

    2 hrs out of Las Vegas and we have stuck in a traffic jam .... grid lock .... big accident .... police ambulance helicopter, just like in the movies, people out of their cars. It's hotter than hot, sitting in the car .... all part of the American dream ;)

    ... begins in Barstow. It was felt almost like home to see a sign that said, "Interstate 40 East".

    But first, we have to get through the heat of the desert and the Great Plains. We stopped at a little campground that specializes in overnight parking since there is nothing else here to draw people. When we got set up and looked at the thermometer, the temp was 105˚. What a change for the worse! We have reached the hot, hot Southwest. ...

    ... an impressive 120 freightcars! Soon after we stopped at "Mangoos pizz" a for lunch. We continued and came to sandy hills with small grayish green bushes and soon saw something interesting... Right there, on top of the hills, wind turbines, hundreds of them, turned up before our very eyes. Just like indians on a ridge in some old western.
