On the road home

A travel blog entry by dkauten on Feb 15, 2015

Picked up the car at our friends, the Meadors. Hitting the road for Atlanta. Wow, it's been a whirlwind expedition! Feels like we've been gone for months. Can't believe how much we've seen and all the places that we've been in the last 26 days. I will certainly view so many of the places we've visited with a different set of eyes and opinions ...

Folks, we have a winner. My journey continues up the east coast to Airlie Beach. One long overnight bus ride later, I arrive to Airlie and instantly put it in my top 10. We indulged in seasonal spiced beer (brewed right on site), mimosas, and spiced whiskey shots. And ...

... in it. It was a hot day but there were strong winds that kept me cool. It was also fun to watch all the para surfers. This beach was very much like the other beaches we had seen. It was packed because of the holiday. After a couple hours we went back and packed up. At one point someone knocked on the door and rang the bell for our room. (All the hotel rooms I saw had doorbells.). There was a man there with an Easter basket. He spoke no English and ...

... was totally mesmerising, and I could have stayed in there for hours. Whilst we were in there, they had a talk with a scuba diver, who was actually in the exhibit, and spoke to the audience through a very fancy dive mask connected to a speaker. The museum also had a frog exhibit, some touch pools, and one of my favourite animals, beluga whales. It was really nice to see animals that we haven't seen before, but no real substitute for seeing them in the world, and now I really want to ...
