Ori Tours continued west towards the Pacific. We followed the Columbia river towards Astoria, named after John Jacob Astor's port for shipping his furs. It's an attractive town with some fine Art Deco buildings. We did veer off Nick's itinerary, though, stopping off at a different coffee place. The Columbia River is massive, full of large cargo ships waiting to be piloted inland. A lengthy bridge ...

... Costa Rica including:A stay at Esterillos at a place called Encantada with really nice people. There we met four friendly dogs, much to the happiness of the kids. Two of them were orphaned girl puppies who followed the kids around like...well...puppies. We spent those days frolicking more in the pool than the ocean because we saw a sting ray in the water, walking the beach and soaking up the sun and energy during our last days of our trip. On the last ...

Boise to Boardman; Boardman to Portland

... ever seen. The travel/sightseeing highlights, however, came along I84 as it parallels the Columbia, a truly mighty river even as it pours into Oregon from eastern Washington, and which swells even further on its rush to the sea. One could probably enjoy months exploring its banks; we might well have spent weeks there, were it not the call of family awaiting us in ...
