Clear blue sky and bright sunshine encouraged us to get moving. The weather made the drive along the coast northwards a very pleasant experience. Before very long we were parked and a 3.5km walk around the base of Mt Maunganui was completed in less than an hour. Not bad when you consider that most of that time was taken up gawping at the views of …

... gorge, over-run with vegetation, that looked like a film set. It almost didn't look real.
Soon enough, we stopped the raft, ready for our final preparation for the highlight of the day - the 7m waterfall! Luke, gave us some last minute instructions, before we started approach. After we walked back to the van we headed west towards the Waitomo Caves.

... wonder, where two hours either side of low tide the sand starts to steam and hot water bubble up to the surface. Hoards of people descend on the beach with their spades to dig themselves a bath, which ideally will consist of a bit of ocean water before the tide recedes too far and the 64○C waters rising to the surface and trickling down the beach into your pools. It's a truly unique experience and you can see why this is listed as one of the top 10 best beaches to visit ...

Day off today, wooo! Had an amazing day! This morning we went on a gondola ride up a mountain. We went on a luge back down!! (Several times) - such fun! There were three different tracks, the scenic route, intermediate and advanced. Lucy only crashed once.. It felt like they were going so fast, the advanced one had small jumps and very sharp corners. We got ...
