    ... touching the ground. I guess the winds are worse than I thought around here. As it turns out, the leaning water tower currently serves as a decorative item. It originally was a functioning water tower which was slated for demolition until Ralph Britten bought it and moved it to serve as a sign for his truck stop and tourist information center.     ... br> After about an hour of the worlds worst crossword completion Billy informed us that dinner was served. Billy and Loretta had been preparing dinner all afternoon and had done an amazing job of preparing homemade hamburgers, barbeque wieners, salad, pork rids, pork chops and homemade beans and potato salad for about fifteen people.

    Bellies full we returned to the motel room to watch a program about a religious nut job before closing our eyes for pleasant dreams.

    ... 66 lore, a sixty-foot white aluminium (aluminum?) cross that is visible for miles around. It's based at a religious centre outside town and is obviously meant to draw believers to the area, but I suspect it draws in far more passing 66'ers who want to look at it for novelty value. Billy Connolly described it succinctly as "the biggest cross I've ever seen". Hard to argue with that, really!

    Oddometer 1321 miles. Today was a pretty easy day where we logged only 163 miles driving. Got up this morning and headed to Palo Duro State Park. We spent a couple of hours driving around in the park, stopped and did two hikes. Hopefully the attached pictures do some justice to the scenery. It's a very beautiful, desolate piece of land.
