Our Home Away From Home
We have stayed at The Palmetto the first week of May since '94 and this is the first spring we will have missed due soley to the motel renovation and extensive construction in the area. We drive 12 hours straight through to get there from our home in Brown County, Ohio roughly 50 miles east of Cincinnati. We were saddened to learn that our little motel would be undergoing renovation, as we loved its' personality and charm so much but recognize the necessity for change. It provides everything we need for a relaxing, stress-free vacation and the pool, landscaping and other amenities are superior to those found at more trendy, high-priced hotels. There simply is no comparison and our friends and family think we spend a fortune on our vacation judging by our photos.
We have made so many friends at The Palmetto, some of whom we correspond with throughout the year, and consider it our home away from home. We feel such a loyalty to Rick & Patti and their staff that we would not consider staying anywhere else during the renovation and are looking forward to staying in the new Palmetto in '06 and many years thereafter.
Take My Advise
My Family and I have stayed at the Palmetto for 18 years straight, ever since I was born, and My mom has never missed a summer at the Pametto in almost 30 years. The Best Place in PC!
Ripped off for $88.00 from this hotel
This hotel charged me $88.00 for a room when I had cancelled it. I sent letters to dispute the charges with employees names and the owners apparently didn't care as they took the money anyway. Go somewhere else... Will recommend to all other government employees too !!! Already listed with my agency to "stay away".
Too bad its closing
I've stayed at the Palmetto for the past three years between Christmas and New Years. The staff/owners are very special and make you feel at home. While the rooms are nothing special, the poolside area and ocean view more than make up for it. Since they're closing down this fall to build a new high-rise complex, I've had to make other arrangements for this year's trip. I'll miss it!!!!! :-(
5 STARS PLUS!
My husband and I were passing through Panama Beach and wanted to stay a couple of days, we decided to check this place out, the desk clerk offered to show us the room (we were across the street from the main hotel which is on the beach)before we payed, but told her we would check out with a full refund if we didn't like what we saw, the room was clean and smelled clean, we walked to the indoor pool area and found it to be very nice. We were very happy and stayed. Only wished that we had stayed there the first time passing through, instead of the Sandpiper-Beacon, which was a total nasty stink hole! When we go back we will only stay at the Palmetto for sure!
Best Motel on the Beach
The Palmetto has been my family's vacation spot of choice for about the past 13 years. Every year when I was a teenager we went here with my family, and now I go myself. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff is friendly, and the location is excellent. The hotel is away from the noise and congestion of "the strip", but it's just a few minutes up the road if you want to shop or eat out. The pool areas are clean and beautifully landscaped, and the beach is beautiful. There isn't a better spot on the coast!
Just returned from PCB and enjoyed my stay at the Palmetto. It is located on the west end of PCB away from most of the new construction and high rise condos. Is great for families. There is a Winn Dixie grocery store located within 200 yards and there are refrigerators in the rooms. There are also gas grills located on the property if you want to grill out. If you like to hang with the locals there is a great littlr bar within walking distance called the Y Not. They had live music and great prices compared to some bars located in the middle of the beach. If you are looking for a clean basic room with Cable this is it. If your flying into town once at the Palmetto most things are within walking distance-beer,food,liquor,drug store, scooter rentals, and the best beach in florida.
Wished we could have found it sooner
My family has been going to Panama City for years as a spring break vacation and always stayed at Gulf Crest ,then when they closed we were desperate to find another hotel with the family atmosphere and not springbreakers. The first 2 years after they closed we stayed at Sunset Inn, which is also a great place, but we wanted to find an oceanfront pool so the older kids could play on the beach and we could watch both ,so last year we stayed at palmetto and knew this was what we had been looking for. Since spring break last year we have been back again in September and have not regretted it at all.
Nice, Nice View
My husband and I stayed at the Palmetto and the view was that of a postcard. The rooms were unattractive, but the view and the vision made up for it. I recommend it for people wanting easy access to a beactiful pool that overlooks the Gulf.
My children and I just got back from a trip to Panama City, Florida. We stayed a week in our Motel. It was clean when we got there, we were able to get a baby crib, high chair (at no extra cost) extra towels if needed. The staff was really nice and helpful in any way. We were on the side away from the beach, but could just walk across the street and use any of the facilities on the beachside. I would like to thank the staff at Palmetto for making our stay enjoyable.

... have only seen in the zoo before. We are unsure of their name but they have a cute red crown of feathers on the top of their heads. We then went over to Walmart to replace the knitting needles Sheree forgot in Statia. She had planned to work on the afghan she has been doing on long drives but ended up knitting cotton washcloths for Kristin instead. Sheree stayed awake the last night to finish the last one and then tucked ...
... thunderstorms and lightning. This morning, in between thunderstorms, we went out for a 3 mile walk through the slash pine forest, white sand dunes and along the beach. See photos. We returned just in time before another thunderstorm which featured close lightning, momentary loss of power (thank you surge protector) and torrential downpour. Now a little reprieve before next volley.

... couple of hours at the beach I headed back to camp and grabbed a bite to eat, leftover burgers was perfect to satisfy my hunger. I took advantage of the shade at the campsite and lurked around there for a while before heading back over to brave the beach. I basically got straight into the water and floated around for a bit, it was so relaxing until I got surrounded by hundreds of little fish. There was so many they were literally hitting my ankles. ... on our 5 hour trip :/ the whole arvo was a blur until we arrived at our campsite in Panama City beach. It was pretty hot and humid when we arrived so setting up camp wasn't exactly ideal, sweat dripping everywhere. Once the tents were up I was on cooking duty so we got to it. We were making burgers which turned out to be pretty popular amongst the group. Everything got cleaned up and we spent the night sitting around drinking and chatting before people retreated to their ...
