We awakened to dense fog this morning that never seemed to burn off. Since we weren't leaving until 1100 because of adverse tide in the Cape Fear, we didn't pay much mind ---- except, when 1100 rolled around, the pea soup fog was still with us. I thought it would soon burn off but was wrong. We traversed the stretch from St. James Marina to Southport at idle, barely making two knots SOG. At Southport, with nearly zero viz, ...

We will have a nice breakfast out and take advantage of this classy place tomorrow Am. Drew is holding up but hope to have Dr. apt. in line tomorrow am.
Had planned Backgammon tonight but ol' Eagle eyes' is asleep, so will get my book out.

The next morning we drove into Wilmington. I had read that downtown Wilmington had a pretty nice atmosphere and we were not disappointed. We walked around Front Street and the Pier and enjoyed North Carolina for the first time since we had entered it. I don't want to completely knock down NC and I think we just missed some of the really good stuff. Asheville and the Appalachian part of NC is supposed to be beautiful and worth a stop. ... while I was waiting I cut peters hair with my nail scissors, wasn't easy but it looks ok. Eventually when it stopped raining we went to the ship but we only had just under 2 hours to look around and with Peter that's not really enough as he likes to study engines- a lot. ... ferry ride. Stayed in a small campground at a place called Sea Level, where some of the old folk still speak an old English brogue and of all places had great internet reception.

Then onto Wilmington, a lovely old Confederate town with many antebellum homes, it was here we saw a boat with an Australian flag on the mast, how sweet!
