... up at a free dock at Fishy Fishy Seafood and had lunch. Finished eating and sat in the boat, still socked in. A patch of blue showed up and I thought the fog was finally clearing. Wrong! We crept out of Southport with maybe 50 ft viz at dead low tide that was just starting to reverse. We were using DR, GPS, VHF tuned to 13/16 with foghorn in hand and literally went mark-to-mark the entire way up the river. Radio protocol ...

... many gracious people on this trip & got to know them personally.
We will have a nice breakfast out and take advantage of this classy place tomorrow Am. Drew is holding up but hope to have Dr. apt. in line tomorrow am.
Had planned Backgammon tonight but ol' Eagle eyes' is asleep, so will get my book out.

... lot of trailer parks and trying to find a campground has been difficult because a lot of them turn out to be trailer parks. The campground we went to in Wilmington looked good online but it turned out to be a little bit creepy. Good news is the price was great and there were a lot of friendly cats and dogs to pet. Bad news is the place gave me the heebie-jeebies. We got through the night no problem and really I’m sure everything was fine but we packed it up the next morning ...

... two hour trip down the Cape Fear River, with wind opposing tide, was lumpy but manageable and making the turn into Southport was a welcome difference from the rough ride down the River.

Per our plan, we arrived at Saint James Marina about 1600 followed by John and Tony aboard
Obscurity, who berthed next to us. We all retired to the Grille and Pub to get warm up and eventually stayed ...

... Wrightsvile Beach) after dark after negotiating a rather tricky channel from the ICW. Anchoring in the dark with a relatively inexperienced crew didn't sound too enjoyable so I elected to pay for a slip here. There's a side story here I won't bore you with but the upshot is that I'll pick up a hearing aid in Wrightsville Beach that died earlier on this trip and was sent here for repair. ...
