We awakened to dense fog this morning that never seemed to burn off. The next morning we drove into Wilmington. I had read that downtown Wilmington had a pretty nice atmosphere and we were not disappointed. We walked around Front Street and the Pier and enjoyed North Carolina for the first time since we had entered it. We awakened this morning to 44 degrees, 20 mph northeast wind, and an anchor that was buried in the hard sand bottom of Banks Chanel, After considerable effort and super numb hands, Maggie and I got the anchor up and aboard as we headed down Masonboro Sound and the short cut thru Shinn Creek to the ICW. Now we were headed dead downwind and that lessened the effect of the bone chilling wind.
After a good night's sleep, we awoke to find bagels with our names on them in the hotel lobby and quickly began the second half of our journey to Oak Island. We piled into the car and headed from Wilson to our next destination, Garland N.C.
