18th March - After a long 6 hour coach journey we arrive in Port Macquarie, a small beach town north of Sydney. We are staying at Beachside Backpackers which is a very small hostel with a nice communal area. The only downside was a very stroppy manager that shouted at me for not shutting a door within 2 minutes of being there. Other than that all of the staff were really nice. We checked in and quickly set out to the only koala hospital in the world! At 8am and 3pm every day they do a ...

... Inside the sanctuary we saw lots of koalas, listened to a presentation about them, including the spread of chlamydia! Also at the sanctuary were lots of kangaroos. We bought some food and went into the enclosure to find the kangaroos. We hurried past the big scary emu birds with the red eyes on the way in and the way out!!!! While in Brisbane we also met up with Helen, a friend from work. It was great to see a friendly ...

We had a nice lunch and I won $120 on the pokies but it was only dampened by the news of a friend losing his battle with cancer and passing this morning. A sad day for us and his family but he doesn't suffer anymore and passed without pain. R.I.P Lance, we will miss you and our love goes out to Margaret and her family at this sad time.

... sure. We eventually got to Shelley Beach and came across a statue of Harry Thompson!!! Imagine my surprise that there is a statue of someone with the same name as my dear departed Dad! Apparently in 1960 Harry made his caravan home at Shelley Beach. The Council tried to evict him as they didn't want anyone living there. This caused an uproar and all the locals got upset, demanding that he be allowed to live there undisturbed as the unofficial "Caretaker". In ...

... luggage in order to get to the car before it drove off. We said our farewells to Issy for the last time. It would be the last time we saw her and this was quite something for Chloe considering they had spent nearly 3 months with eachother now. Fabien was joining us as well for he was going to work for a family for the week up in Newcastle. We were dropped off, unsurprisingly, in the middle of nowhere in order to catch the bus but the sun was just rising over the treeline, lighting ...
