Noosa Head

Used this morning to tour around the Central Business District (CBD) of Brisbane. Stopped on the south side of the river for a coffee and strolled the lovely parkland taking pictures of the skyline. Crossed the river and walked the Queen St. pedestrian mall. I like Brisbane - the topographic relief, the cleanliness, the vegetation, the architecture. I wish we had more time but it's off to Noosa Heads on the Sunshine Coast. Used a motorway to get out of the city and then followed the coast roa...

"Flucht" vor Hamish / "Fleeing" Hamish

Where have we been??!!

We have spent the last few days in Noosa and it has been spectacular! Its not very busy at this time of year and so we have been enjoying the peace and quiet of the national parks.

I have been honing my surfing skills (still pretty average) and John has been out on the mal as well (its pretty small). We have been to see the big pineapple and enjoyed our ...

... but I would like to point out the only place that he didn't burn was his back .. guess who did that for him lol. After it being 40 degrees in the morning and afternoon it started to cloud over in the evening. On the radio they said they were expecting a late storm, the guy on the radio stated 'we are expecting some rain soon, but don't worry! The sun will be back soon, and rain is only water it can't hurt you' - this was the weather report Aussie style I guess. By the ...

Eucalyptus everywhere - where are the gumtrees?

... on our way down with the bus, that is avoiding all the touristy areas. Instead we did some scenic drives, the first one taking us close to Steve "Crocodile Hunter" Irwin's Australia Zoo. We didn't go to the zoo since we had such a tight schedule but it did look like a massive attraction. Maybe later... We also stopped in Noosa, a posh tourist town with a park where you might spot some koalas. We did try to find some but our knowledge of Australian flora and ...

Touring around Fraser Island! Tues 15th April

... to our delight, the rain stopped and the sun came out. We got our swimmers on and headed down to the lake. It was packed this time, lots of tour groups enjoyed the beautiful setting. We relaxed on the white sand and before long we saw our first dingo! It went around the beach sniffing peoples bags for food. Everybody excitedly jumped to their feet and started taking photos. I was slightly tense as it walked over our way but with my bag hidden ...

A la posh!

... so when they saw the two of us taking photos it was'nt long until there was a small crowd gathered around the tree where the koala was. So, being very poor flashpackers, we decided to ditch the good old Greyhound Bus and hire a car for the few days left. It wactually worked out cheaper to hire the car to head to where we wanted to rather than get the bus. So we headed for Steve Irwins Australia Zoo. Its mad walking around there ...

Day 80 - Hervey Bay to Noosa

... all this?!

As you can see the sun was coming down, giving us some great views of the various coves & bays as we made our way out to the wonderfully named "Devil's Horns".

These are two slithers of rock which shoot ...

... stop at the bottom. Great fun, if you ever get the chance, do it. We eventually go tinto Noosa. A little retirement community along the beach. Lots of walking wrinkles, a popular place for people to go a die. Backpackers are becoming more and more popular in the area as well, much to the dislike of the elderly. We headed for the beach, as you usually do when you land into a new place. Great beach, national park butts right up to the sand ...
