... flashing lights drew attention to these signs. We did see deer but truly, the promised bears in the brochure are still sleeping. The deer were scrounging for fresh growth under the snow. ... for poor visibility we were ducking in and out of the channel to avoid Navy traffic.

During the trip down anything that wasn't fastened down below ended up on the floor in the salon. Left Annapolis at 2 Monday and arrived at Top Rack Marina at about 2 this afternoon. Rewarded ourselves with a great dinner out at the Amber Lantern Restaurant. Early to bed. Up at 5:30 tomorrow to get underway at first light.

On May 15 we departed at 0750 for Norfolk, leaving Marsh Harbour and exiting through the northern Man-O-War ocean pass with winds from the ENE at 15-20 kts. The weather forecast looked good for a non-stop passage to the Chesapeake Bay. Ah, the million dollar question. Or should I say $20,000? Initially I saved $10,000 over the course of five years. Then I was blessed with another job offer while temporarily living with my parents. This allowed me to bank another $10,000 within six months. Vaccinations cost $1,000, visas totaled $800, and airline tickets came to $6,500. Once on the road, I tried to stick to a budget of $30 a day.
