... friends before our big adventure.
Fiona - Do you really need the hair drier and hair straightener on this trip? We won't have access to power 90% of the time! Oh well, I suppose there is space in the bags?
Must go now for farewell drinks over the road.
... up with Venetia for dinner. Bought books to read on plane. Finally got to airport at about 10pm. The plane doesn't leave until 12.45am. Erin's dad was there to see her off. That was lovely for her. He even gave her some extra spending money on her card - fantastic! Now we are waiting in the international departures area. Duty free is done. Coffee has been drunk. Blogging has been started. Tomorrow we land in KL and the real adventure begins!
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia 3girlsinasia... airports and airplanes for something like twenty-six hours, and headed out onto the streets. The city was instantly intriguing. It was modern and historic and just funky and artistic in a way that I hadn't yet experienced anywhere. Public art was everywhere, each example of it more clever than the one before. And in places you wouldn't expect to see. A very life-like sculpture of a sofa on a street corner. A bronze sculpture of a man and woman standing side by side and ...
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia sirecho... re-wife Katie. I'll maybe leave THAT particular story to another time but let's just say there's been some eyebrows raised about that reunion. They're getting married on October 31st (I dunno if that's a good omen or a bad???) so it's an excuse to get dolled up and have a ****-up anyway. But back to the beach - it was stunning, you could see all the way out to Melbourne in the distance because the sky was so clear. It wasn't very warm but there was one guy braving the water - he ...
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia brooksy85... Galapagos where I started and quizzed her about useless trivia in Galapagos to give her stories that she would remember like “Do you know what color feet the Blue-Footed Boobie Bird has?” I advanced with tougher questions and she was smart. I knew she was paying attention and hoped that I would impact her with some of the stories I shared with her. I remembered that I had my laptop with me with all my pictures on it. I pulled it out and started ...

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia viki_fish... on tap and cooled by a complex tube-and-esky system that boggled the mind; the music was Marley and the Stones from a Buddy Holly lookalike with his pal on bass; the chocolate cake was at just the right stage of undercooked gooeyness and the dancing was uninterrupted by the drizzle. Just as an hour before you're due at the hairdressers you start thinking 'actually ...
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia rachelhwalsh... hand. Her plan for the day was to do nothing at all. Sounded good to me. We had food enough to last us the day and beers to use up as we weren't going to take them on the plane. So a few beers by three in the afternoon saw us with mild hangovers by seven, we decided that we should probably sleep at least a few hours before getting up and going. Dinner consisted of beaked bean toasties and really bad pasta with cheap sauce before we headed to bed for what consisted of two hours sleep before alarms went off.
