Friday, July 24, 2015. PCT day 96. Miles1527.6-1551.7. For some reason, the morning seemed like it dragged on really slow today. I felt like time slowed down. By 9:30, it felt like I had been walking for 4 hours, but in actuality it had only been 2 hours. It was chilly last night, the temperature dropping down to 45F. It felt good. There were no mosquitoes. The powdered coconut milk, granola, and organic pop tarts I had this morning must have ...

... far north. The climb was slow and steady and shaded by the forest canopy most of the way. Along the way, Castle Crags where visible. The water sources were not too spread out. Eventually reaching 6000 feet, we are granted epic views of Mt. Shasta. I made it to my intended destination and water source near a ridge by 7:30 pm. I was expecting to find Cuban B here, but apparently he ...

... ride into the town of Mt. Shasta. Cuban B and I ended up sharing a hotel room. TooMuch went to the KOA. It was nice to finally be in town for a break after 19-20 days of straight hiking. After a shower and laundry, it was time for a huge lunch and a movie at the theater. Tomorrow, the plan is for the usual zero day chores of resupply/post office errands and of course, ...

... Valley Creek. There was lots of climbing today. I think the cumulative elevation gain today was about 5000-5500. Oh, and bushwhacking through poison ivy and poison oak. It felt like a jungle today. The tree canopy was thick, with tall Douglas Firs and Cedar Trees and Oak Trees too. Eventually the trail made a bend to where it grants you epic front row views of Mt. Shasta with a summer thunderstorm rolling in. As I write this, I can see Shasta be bombarded with lightning. ...

... we sadly leave this awesome city in my rearview mirror. Back over the bridge we make a quick detour to the Golden Gate National Park, which climbed high above the ocean and offered amazing views of the city skyline, San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. After multiple photos and a moment to take it all in we are back on the road, this time headed North on Highway 5, towards Redding California. Five hours of driving through more gorgeous California country we ...
