A Motel - what a treat!

We travelled across the Haast Pass to Fox. Did a walk at Monro Beach. It was raining really heavily and we walked through the rainforest. Absolutely stunning forest. It reminded me of Tarzan in the jungle! We emerged onto a lovely beach which must look fantastic in the sun! It's the nesting site of crested penguins but they were all sheltering from the rain so we didn't see them. We did find some nice shells and stones though which was a bonus.

After getting absolutely soaked, we were...

cold again!

... i ate that and then we went back and ate the rest of the pasta and had a sandwhich in the eve instead! We drove to Greymouth and spent ages trying to find somewhere free to park, we were low on fuel so I filled up and asked the fuel man who told us a few places. We stayed overnight at a field thing near the river(which is horrible and grey. It's called the grey river). It got dark pretty quickly so we ate our sandwhiches (tuna) and went to bed!

We did it! Skydiving over the Glaciers!

... out and as they opened the door, the butterflies started going up and down my throat and stomach! Then it was my turn! I was really nervous about jumping out of the plane and I thought that would be the most scariest part but it ended up being the BEST part. It was an awesome feeling jumping out of the plane and doing a somersault and seeing the plane disappear! The wind and cold took my breath away and the view ...

I feel like i'm in ice age

... down a quick and early lunch. We then parked up on the main street in town and found the office who we had booked our tour with.

We were given a quick brief and kitted out with waterproof trousers, jackets, gloves, socks, boots and spikes before going 10 minutes on the coach to the national park. We walked through the park for 45 minutes through forest and then down the riverbed (which surprisingly had dried up to a small ...

The South Island - Hokitika to Fox Glacier

... small legs couldn’t stretch very far (the other girls had problems too, but Luke made out like I was special or something!) but with a bit of help from Luke (finally) I got out of there, phew! And then it was time to make our way off the glacier and back down to the bus.

And, wouldn't you just believe it – as we finally made it off the glacier, it stopped raining and we saw some blue sky for the first time in days! We ...

The Glaciers

... a special on at Dunkin' Donuts that afternoon. I ask you.. it took that long for Louise to get onto the ice that I bumped into their group on our way back down.

A couple of ice-axes (well, one was technically an ice hammer...apparently....well, it was a sharp metal object I clung onto for dear life), crampons, and a rope provides a great day's fun if you can find a lump of ice stable enough to mess about on. It's knackering work so the beer and chips later that night with ...

New Zealand Part One

... it was only a short ride to our next destination, Franz Joseph Glacier.

Franz Joseph is a very small town, mostly its just there to cater for activities, the day was just to relax seeing as the night before was big, although that didn't stop me from going for a stroll on some of the walking tracks around, but unfortunately the two closest tracks were closed.
Later that night we went to the Hostel pub for a few games of pool and Bingo, but luck wasn't no my ...

Day Nineteen - Fox Glacier

I enquired about doing a half day hike up Franz-Josef, but the morning tour was booked out. We planned on being in Wanaka by the evening, so I decided not to wait for the afternoon hike. We drove for half an hour to the Fox Glacier, and took the one minute walk from the car to the viewing area. Anything closer was closed off due to a recent landslide. I ...

Fox Glacier – Queenstown

... itself in knots – I was set to do the 134m Nevis Bungy first thing the next morning, followed up by skydiving in the afternoon.

After checking into the Queenstown Lodge and getting all dolled up for our tour photo we climbed into one of the most recognisable and established Queenstown tourism ventures, the Skyline Gondola that climbs up the hill behind the town centre. At the top we gathered for a snobby and posh dinner looking down on the ...
