We had decided today that we would take a trip out to rotorua as there is loads to do there but because it was the day before the tongarillo crossing we literally had an overnight there. It took us, us being Dave, bev and I, about an hour and a half so we arrived about 10:30. Our first stop was to the gondola up the hill. Really looking forward to the paddle boards arriving to explore the harbour. Initially a bit shocked by the local supermarket, which is expensive and limited in everything interesting. Oh, except the ...

... to the set location. There was only ONE sign the whole way and it was about a quarter mile up the road from the location.

We found out that Peter Jackson co-owns the tourist attraction with the farm owners. The first set they built was partially torn down and the farm owner had a lot of people come up to him asking for a tour, so he called New Line Cinemas up and they struck a deal. They also needed to come back for the Hobbit movies so instead ...

... about every aspect of the dairy farming business. He gave us a tour of the milking station where 30 cows are connected to the machine at once to be milked. The milk is then cooled and stored for pick-up by the dairy buying the milk. Much of the milk is processed into dry baby formula and exported to China and Japan. If the temperature is off even a little, the milk has to be destroyed or used to feed the calves. He can tell you how ...
