I was up reasonably early for my trip to Plitvice National Park as it was a good 2 1/2 hours to get there and I wanted to make the most of the day. Ever since I saw the Plitvice Lakes in an entry for a book called "1000 amazing things to see" or something like that, I have been dying to go there. From Opatija we had a 4 hour drive (part of it in some significantly stormy weather) to get to Camping Korana – a campsite 5km from the National Park.

... We had though the scenery of the upper lakes amazing but the the lower lakes were absolutely breaktaking. Most of the way around you are on boardwalks which have water from the falls rushing through them and so they can get quite slippery and wet. Some that we wouldnt get past we kept going and glad we did as we saw some of the most spectacular waterfalls I've ever seen up this close.
