... we made a hike to Bumpass Hell. This is a mud-pool plateau that can be found likewise (but much larger) in Yellowstone. Funny story how it got its name. The field was discovered by Mr Bumpass who claimed the land planning to exploit it and make it a tourist attraction. When he showed his claim to others he warned them to be careful where to step. At that moment he stepped and the thin crust broke under his feet and his leg went into a mud-pool. The leg was severely burned and ...

... all. And just ice cream. And remember: each is a man-high freezer. When we were onto the highway there was a roadblock. I grasped my license and vehicle registration but it was the department of agriculture to see if we transported wood or fruits. The guy laughed at us. Welcome to California. The last couple weeks have been full of ups downs and landmarks. I have now been on the trail over 3 months, and I crossed the halfway mark, 1325 miles to Mexico,1325 miles to canada.   The walking lately has been rather monotonous. ... is the famous Manzanar WWiI Japanese interment camp, roadside cafes and bakeries, ghost towns, fabulous fishing, and convict shoot outs. This road has just about everything. As an added bonus, with the exception of Reno, there are almost no sizable towns or development along the way to spoil the beauty.

We pulled into Merrill campground on the south shore of of Eagle Lake, paid our $40 for two nights and set up camp. Unlike at Convict that ...

... morning we drove south along Hwy 31 - called the Oregon Outback which had us in rain and snow for over 209 miles. Beautiful snow and good roads. Although we planned to stay in Likely,CA the park was closed due to snow, so we motored on to Susanville to see my family. Then headed back to Wilton over Hwy 80 and more new snow. Very spectacular views and the rig worked very well. The cat liked it ...
