    ... Mt. Shasta including a full blown tour of what's-what and price inquiries at all the promising hotels. We ended up staying at the Alpine Lodge, one if the more hiker priced and quality establishments in town. By the time we checked in and set our bags down it was only 6:30 pm. Plenty of life left on a young night in a new place. And guess what? We were across the street from the local Chinese restaurant! Afterwards we detoured ...

    ... climbing. We could see the summit of Mount Shasta, which was awesome. But after a ways, the trail wasn't matching my trail notes, and it seemed to be turning and going in the wrong direction. We decided we were on the wrong trail and headed down. But it was cool to see the summit of Mount Shasta from that hike.

    We went back to the trailhead and saw that it was on the other side of the parking lot that we needed to be for the Squaw Meadow hike.
