      ... up early and went to the farmers market. We got lots of fresh produce, pistachios and almonds.

      ... was a dead surfer (Ventura is like most of California coast, a big surfer destination) but was a beached seal. We tried to cover it with water using Eva's plastic bucket which it accepted gratefully with its massive brown eyes, but eventually we had to turn and leave it as the beach was deserted bar the surfers and we had no idea what the US equivalent of NSPCA is. The tide was coming in so it could swim away if necessary, but I think it had come onto the beach to die. MORE ...

      ... along the interstate. Talk about endless.

      My target for the evening was the home of my old college roommate Barry and his wife Kate, in Ventura. I hadn't seen them since my last visit to the LA area back in '02 and it was wonderful to reunite...made that less-than-ideal drive all worth it.

      ... ocean and back. For a big adventure they sail up or down the coast to the next harbor and tie up to a dock! San Francisco Bay is the one exception.       ... recent parks it didn't seem that scenic either but was better than the highways. We ended up on route 101 which we really wish we'd had time to drive up to San Francisco on. It travels along the coast and you can see the Pacific Ocean from the highway much better than the dry flat boring route we took!!
