We left the Venice Beach House after the usual nice breakfast with cereals, fruit, yoghurt. This morning they also gave us a french toast with bananas, a sort of pain perdu with bananas and caramel ...very heavy! We packed and left LA driving the Pacific Coast Hwy. nice view on the beaches, a lot of surfers. We drove through Malibu, disappointed by …

... so we thought we would pop in, mainly to see how much a nose piercing was. The piercing studio was still closed so we checked out the tattoos for a bit then went upstairs so I could investigate what I was getting myself into. I think she and we underestimated how absolutely terrified she would be. Bad parenting moment- Ruth ...

... The highlight of our viewing was a whale midway through the day! We had seen a couple in Encinitas, but this one was much closer and swam by so slowly, coming up out of the water regularly. We were completely mesmerized and my adrenaline was pumping. Once the whale was out of site, it was back to relaxation. There are not many things we have seen on this trek more awe-inspiring than a whale, and when it's from your "front yard," it seems all the more magical. ...

... br> We left on a Sunday afternoon, making the usual stop at the Starbucks in King City and a gas/pee break in Buellton. We stayed at the Hyatt Santa Barbara, a multi-building Spanish style resort right on the beach, about 1.5 miles east of downtown Santa Barbara. We had both the dogs with us, so we reserved a pet friendly room, which was in a building off the main hotel that was quiet and private (we didn't see another guest the whole ...
