    ... forest fire in the area - all inhabitants were evacuated, 1700 firefighters & hundreds of appliances involved in fighting it, more than 2600 acres affected but fortunately only one dwelling. So the family went back home & we had a trial overnighter in the campervan beside the Kern River to check that everything worked ok.

    ... br> I went for a brief walk and found a baby California Desert Tortoise. Thinking it was drying up and dead I brought it back to the campsite to show the kids. The tortoise wasn’t dead, it just looks like that normally. After the kids had all seen it, I took off for a hike to take some pictures and relocate the tortoise away from the trails. Back to its natural habitat. I was doing what I enjoy doing...exploring and examining the natural world around me.
