      ... and really quite uncomfortable. All were immigrants regardless of circumstance and all were welcome to try and build America. This changed in the 1900s when limits were then placed on 'certain types' of people. 9 in every 100 people coming into Ellis were sent for mental testing, such as drawing a diamond, matching pictures and simple maths. Hard for those who hadn't had an education.

      ... the wall. More thunder tonight so we bought in pizza and watched Ric********** TV! Let's hope tomorrow is not too wet. Fireworks and rain are not a good mix. ....... No rain and perhaps, the best fireworks we have seen. As tourists we were duty bound to visit as many " must see" places in NY. The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Broadway, Greenwich Village etc. good to have been here but unnecessary to return we conclude.

      We rented a room in Jersey City for 2 nights, that way we could have a place out of the Big Apple. The first night we just slept, and slept for a long portion of the morning too. We tried to look at transit into the city but it was very confusing and Marc convinced me it would be just as much trouble to drive in and find a place to park.
