... br> Caught a bus into downtown. Then took a ride in a historic cable car, Russell stood on the outside running rail for the ride up and down the steep hills until we got off at Lombard street.

Lombard is the worlds crookedest street and features in many movies. We walked up the steep incline, then took the 249 steps to the top of the windy part for some great views.

... nice, with the town itself a mixture of bikers and Blackpool. On the way, one guy offered to give us $100 for our motel! We kindly rejected and stayed at the state park, while planning to meet up with him later on for a drink. Once we'd set up camp, Tom and Sam were pretty tired so decided to get an early night while the rest of us headed into town. There were a lot of karaoke bars, diners and probably the best ice cream shop ...

... managed to find a few gluten free treats on a couple of stalls which I was encouraged to buy and did little to resist! After a short refreshment break we wandered back to the heart of town and explored some of the shops, including a huge Nike store, Bloomingdales, Macys, Nordstrom and Foot Locker where Kate and George each bought some trainers - apparently cheaper than they would be at home (I'm told they've done some research!). ... other day!). Apparently the original horticulturalist loved flora from all over the world and had it installed in various locations around the park. We are going to spend the day there tomorrow. After we arrived back in Union Square, we decided to jump back on the downtown tour to Fisherman's wharf. We had a couple of hours to kill so we walked to Ghiradelli's square, a totally overly touristy spot but someone told us they handed out free chocolate, and I'm easily pleased.... ...
