      The preserve

Met some people here at Cove Creek RV Resort who told us we needed to take a ride up to the Preserve Resort. It's some really beautiful cabins up on top of the mountain. Turning into the road going up it says must have snow tires or chains to access it during snowy weather.

It was very steep climb goin up but the view and the cabins are beautiful.

Took a hike up to Laurel Falls. The road going up the mountain was very windy running along side a river. The scenery continues to just take our breath. The hike was 2.6 miles round trip. A nice paved trail going 1.3 miles up the mountain to the falls. But it was worth the walk to see the 80 foot waterfall. Unfortunately still no bear sightings but we will keep ...

Doing this as a blog post so that those that are interested can view it and those that aren't....well that's okay. We've been thinking about doing this since we were there in September. We both love the area and the compromise was I love mountains and Lynn loves log cabins...so we both get what we want, but I love log cabins too, but don't tell here. We wanted to invest some money that would ...

Cumberland Gap NHP - The Old Way West

... including the crossing is now part of
Cumberland Gap National Historic Park, an NPS unit oriented toward hiking with
a trail along the top of the ridge for the length of the park. The park itself,
though, is quite small in comparison with Shenandoah or Great Smokies. I just
checked out the visitor center and drove up to the Pinnacles Overlook, a
viewpoint over the gap with a view of the three states, a pleasant view but ...
